The University of Florida Indian River Research and Education Center, located in Fort Pierce, Fla., has been operating as a research laboratory site since 1947. It provides a wide range of bachelor's degree programs that include agribusiness and environmental management with an associate in arts degree. The center s master's degree programs include agricultural education and communication, entomology, environmental horticulture and environmental science. In addition, it provides the agriculturalists with research and extension programs that include biological, chemical and cultural pest management and study to control invasive plants. The University of Florida Indian River Research and Education Center s specific research areas include water and nutrient management for citrus and flatwoods soils; epidemiology and control of leaf and fruit diseases of citrus; micro-irrigation of horticultural crops in humid regions; vegetable and water management; economic production of agricultural products; postharvest handling and packing of agricultural products; biological control of invasive plants and aquaculture.
