Turtle Kraals Restaurant & Bar was established on the site of the first Key West Turtle Cannery opened in 1849. The turtles were brought in from the ocean and held in kraals, or corrals, until they went to the cannery. This activity ended in the 1970s. Turtle Kraals Restaurant & Bar offers a variety of seafood with a Cuban, Bahamian and Key West, Fla., flair. Open-air seating viewing the Key West waterfront community is available at the restaurant. Its Tower Bar offers draft beer and other cocktail selections, which include oversized margaritas and tequilas. Along with the Tower Bar, a bar downstairs also serves as a gathering place for locals and visitors. Turtle Kraals Restaurant & Bar offers a raw bar, which consists of oysters, clams, shrimp and other seafood.
