The Turbana Corporation provides vegetable and melon farming from the independent growers of Colombia's Urab region. In the 1960s, those growers came together to form the Unib n cooperative, which eventually became Turbana's corporate parent. Turbana started as a small importer in 1970. Today, Unib n grows, packs, ships and markets more than 30 percent of the bananas grown in Colombia under the Turbana label. The company obtains 100 percent of its fruit from its grower-owned farms. It exotic varieties include Manzanos, red bananas and baby bananas. Turbana is the fourth largest importer of bananas and the first importer of plantains in North America. The Turbana Corporation holds its United States headquarters in Coral Gables, Fla.
