In 1948, in a small room at Dale Mabry Field, five men and one woman officially form Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The hospital was housed in wooden barracks used by the military during World War II. Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare offers a system of healthcare services that includes operation of nonprofit hospital, a teaching institution with a family practice residency program with clinic, and 11 satellite facilities of family medicine practices. Areas of emphasis and centers at the hospital include behavioral health, cancer program, diabetes center, heart and vascular institute, neuroscience center and women s pavilion. Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare has earned the Gold Seal of Approval for stroke care. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has awarded Tallahassee Memorial Primary Stroke Center Certification.
