Special Olympics Florida, an accredited program of Special Olympics, was founded in 1972 and is one of the largest volunteer-driven athletic organizations in Florida. Special Olympics is one of the world s largest providers of fitness training, education and athletic competition programs for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Special Olympics Florida serves more than 15,000 athletes and offers competition in over 20 different team and individual sports. It operates nearly 900 local, registered training programs in more than 10 service areas. In addition, Special Olympics Florida provides several athlete leadership programs. Its sports offerings include cycling, soccer, volleyball, aquatics, softball, golf, bowling, powerlifting and basketball. It is located in Clermont, Fla.
