Robert Simpson, MD - Fort Hughston Clinic
Robert Bruce Simpson, Jr., MD, FACS, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and traumatologist, joins Hughston Trauma at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in Fort Walton, FL. Dr. Simpson earned his undergraduate degree in zoology from the University of Maine in 1984 and his medical degree from the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, in 1988. Dr. Simpson did his internship at Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA, and then went on to complete an orthopaedic surgery residency at Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA, in 1995. In 1998, he completed an orthopaedic traumatology fellowship at Cornell University Weil College of Medicine's Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Dr Simpson began his career in healthcare after enlisting in the US Navy in 1977. Through his service as a Navy Hospital Corpsman attached to the Marines, he intensified his dedication to core values. Dr. Simpson was commissioned as an officer in the US Navy Medical Corps in 1988. He served in diverse operational roles as a Medical Officer, undertaking special assignments and earning numerous military honors. Dr. Simpson retired from active duty in 2004, assuming a role as full-time Orthopaedic Trauma Faculty at Penn State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center College of Medicine. In 2006, he became the Division Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma Service at the Orthopaedic Medical Service Group in Syracuse, NY, where he also served as Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at SUNY Upstate Medical Center. Dr. Simpson has done grant-funded research and published and presented his work extensively. He holds licenses in the states of Florida, Georgia, Montana, and New York. Additionally, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Board of Medical Examiners, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.
