The mission of the Venice Police Department is to protect all rights of persons within the jurisdiction. The department has a staff of more than 75 full-time and part-time employees. Its uniformed patrol division is responsible for operating within approximately 10 zones of the city and provides a uniformed patrol force. The patrol force is the initial responder to citizen complaints and law enforcement emergencies. It is also responsible for investigating traffic crashes, traffic control and enforcement, parking enforcement, coordination of special event duties, marine and bike patrol and electronic dispatching and recording of calls for service. Venice Police Department support services division is responsible for crime investigation, departmental training, records, public information, personnel, crime prevention and community policing programs, youth services, drug investigations, state accreditation, school-crossing guards and internal affairs.
