Established in 1931, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency that employs a staff of more than 3,500 sworn officers, civilians and community volunteers. It is part of a countywide communication center that dispatches emergency calls to local police, fire, medical ambulances and first responders. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office also maintains a citizens police academy that provides training programs related to law, firearms instruction, defensive tactics, first aid, as well as an understanding on how the sheriff s office patrols and investigates crimes. In addition, the office has a community services unit that conducts community crime and safety prevention presentations and programs, assesses security deficiencies through surveys, organizes neighborhood watch groups and maintains liaisons. With a location in West Palm Beach, Fla., the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office supports the Crime Stoppers program, which is affiliated with the National Crime Stoppers Organization and provides opportunities for citizens to anonymously report suspicious or illegal activity to authorities.
