The Museum of Discovery and Science is a private and nonprofit facility. It is accredited by the American Association of Museums and the Association of Science-Technology Centers. Its facility covers an area of more than 85,000 square feet with interactive science exhibits, classrooms, caf , store and an atrium. Founded in 1976 as The Discovery Center, the facility serves more than 450,000 visitors. Its IMAX Theater was opened in 1992 and has a seating capacity for more than 300 people. It features a more than 15,000- watt digital system that delivers discrete channels of clear sound through various speakers. Located in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the museum serves as an official interpretive site of the South Florida Ecosystems Restoration Task Force. The museum educates people through hands-on exhibits, engaging educational programming, and films and a live animal collection.
