Founded in 1997, the Miami-Dade County Juvenile Services Department, formerly known as the Miami-Dade Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC), is an independent department that provides secure environment to assess and process arrested juveniles and at-risk youths. The department utilizes assessment instruments and technology in order to determine the individual issues of juveniles for the purpose of minimizing further delinquent activities. Its Clinical Unit organizes various programs, such as the Post-Arrest Diversion Program, Young Offenders Process, Juvenile Alternative Services Sanctions, Juvenile Alternative Services Program and Intensive Delinquency Diversion Services. The Juvenile Services Department administers the Violence Intervention Project, which conducts strategic, ongoing and public outreach campaign that addresses devastating violence.
