Downtown St. Petersburg's famous outdoor concert venue was reborn in 2010, spruced up by new management and once again attracting big names. With a capacity for 2,000 fans, Jannus Live is big enough to have hosted big names like Pearl Jam, the Neville Brothers and Radiohead. Today, expect to see big-name club acts like Cake or G Love and Special Sauce, along with classic hitmakers like Robin Trower. The easiest way to get tickets is online. The venue is huge -- taking up most of a city block -- so there's plenty of room. Seating is mostly standing room, with some indoor seats. There's a full alcohol license and indoor lounge named after comedian Dan Aykroyd's signature Crystal Head vodka. Jannus Live also has St. Petersburg's only Absinthe bar.
Jannus Live continues to expand its downtown empire, so expect to see in 2011 a sushi bar opening on site, and an MTV-style broadcast that fans can see on a local cable-access station. It is not just a hip, happening place downtown but also is affordable, offering regular free concerts. The venue is available for rent for private functions.
