Formerly known as Heather Hills, this public golf course is under new ownership and big changes are being made to both the grounds and the amenities. An 18-hole "executive" course with lots of trees and some water hazards, Greens of Manatee is a club for golfers of all levels with the majority of holes being par 3. The 3,521 yard, par 61 course was designed by Roy Albert Anderson and opened in 1963.
Greens of Manatee is a daily-fee course with greens fees between $15 and $30 depending upon the season, and reduced rates after 5:00 pm. Rental clubs are available and there's a driving range and putting green; two pros give lessons by appointment. You can ride or walk this course, but no metal spikes are allowed.
Greens of Manatee is a bit hard to find, located down a lane that's actually 1st Street where Cortez Rd. W becomes 44th Avenue East; head east on Cortez Rd. and turn at the Steak 'n Shake.
