The only elementary school in Sarasota to offer music, visual art, dance and drama is Gocio. With putting a focus on integrating arts into the classroom, Gocio, in 2006, received the Kennedy Center Alliance National Schools of Distinction Award. The school finished a major renovation project in 2007.
