The Florida Solar Energy Center is a research institute of the University of Central Florida. Established in 1975, the center offers services to nonprofit organizations, private sponsors and national laboratories. It has a staff of more than 150 trained and certified members who has expertise in engineering, energy research, building science, energy and policy analysis, and education services. The Florida Solar Energy Center receives $3 million in operating funds per year and conducts research and training classes for external sponsors. It operates a variety of solar thermal testing, building science, solar research and climate-controlled laboratories. The center has earned the Energy Star for Homes Outstanding Achievement Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It is located in Cocoa, Fla.
