The Deerfield Beach Historical Society was founded in 1973, with a directive to identify, preserve and maintain historical sites in the Deerfield Beach area. The first order was to preserve the Pioneer House ( Kester Cottage ), a 1930's era cottage. The Society came together in 1976 to prevent demolition of the old two-room school house, which also served as the town's city hall for many years. In 1977 the home of James D. and Alice Butler, early Deerfield pioneers, was bequeathed to the Society and became our permanent home. The Deerfield Beach Historical Society is a non-profit 501 ( c ) organization open to the public for school tours, group and individual tours. We offer monthly activities for our membership and the community. We are proud to have been instrumental in placing four local structures on the National Register of Historic Places. We continue to acquire artifacts, written data and oral histories and make them accessible to the public.
