The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office is responsible for enforcing the law to prevent and deter crime in the county. It has a communications division that is responsible for receiving and processing calls for public safety assistance. The patrol division of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office serves more than 35,000 residents living in the unincorporated areas of DeSoto County in Florida. In addition, it operates an investigations division, which is responsible for investigating vehicle thefts and residential and commercial burglaries. The investigations division is also responsible for investigating homicides, suicides, sex offenses, kidnappings, harassments, threatening telephone calls, product tampering and terrorist threats. Its agricultural crimes division investigates thefts and other crimes committed against local farmers and ranchers. The office is located in Arcadia, Fla.
