Founded in 1994, Covanta Lee works in the areas of conversion of municipal solid waste to energy. Its service areas include Hendry and Lee counties in Florida. The facility processes more than 1,800 tons per day of solid waste and generates over 55 megawatts of clean and renewable energy. Covanta Lee is equipped with ferrous and nonferrous recovery systems to remove metals from residue. It is owned and operated by Covanta Energy Corporation, which is a subsidiary of Covanta Holding Corporation. Covanta Holding Corporation handles energy-from-waste and renewable energy projects and operates more than 35 facilities in the United States. Its facilities convert over 15 million tons of waste into nearly 5 million megawatt hours of clean renewable electricity and create more than 10 billion pounds of steam that are sold to a variety of industries.
