Mark Anderson founded Benchmark General Contractors, Inc in 1984. Benchmark was formed as a niche general contracting firm to handle a variety general contracting functions to include residential remodeling, new home construction, commercial remodeling, new commercial construction, and small multi-family construction. In the last twenty-five years, Benchmark has completed over one thousand residential and commercial projects of all sizes throughout Lee County. Over the years, the staff at Benchmark has developed a wealth of knowledge in such areas as local permitting procedures and processes, flood plain construction, windstorm protection and the use and implementation of sustainable and green technologies. Having very little employee turnover, Benchmark enjoys the advantage of maintaining a strong, efficient, and well-rounded staff. Most employees have been with Benchmark for extended periods of service, the average employment term of its ten employees being just over thirteen years. In addition to working with their typical high end residential and commercial clientele, Benchmark has worked over the years on many public and institutional projects such as a 14 unit below market housing project for Community Housing Resources on Sanibel Island and the Ronald McDonald House at Health Park. Mark Anderson, the Owner of Benchmark, has been actively involved in numerous local charities and philanthropic organizations during his entire professional career. Art Schuller has been employed at Benchmark since 1993 as Project Manager and Vice-President. He has been working in the construction field since 1964. He is a licensed as a class A General Contractor by the State of Florida. He has served as both superintendent and project manager for numerous residential and commercial projects, such as the Sanibel-Captiva Community Bank, the Performing Arts Center at Bishop Verot High School, the Gymnasium at St. Michael's School, the Ronald McDonald House at Health Park, Zion Lutheran Church, and many other projects. Jeff Good, project manager for Benchmark, has worked for Benchmark since1993. He has been a licensed building contractor in the state of Florida since 1979. He has been involved with the construction of over two hundred homes on Sanibel and Captiva since 1979. He has served on the board of directors for Community Housing Resources on Sanibel island for seven years as well as other local organizations, such as the board of directors for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Benchmark has completed one of the first LEED certified commercial projects in Lee County, the First Community Bank at the Forum, completed in the fall of 2008 and currently has under construction the first home on Sanibel to be a certified Green Home by the Florida Green Building Coalition.
