Dr. Bankert graduated from medical school at Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Miami, Fla., and completed his OB/GYN residency at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., where he was chief resident. Dr. Bankert is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After delivering close to 5,000 babies in the last twenty-two years, Dr. Bankert has now limited his practice to gynecology services. Dr. Bankert specializes in the treatment of urinary incontinence and female pelvic-floor disorders. He has received advanced training and certification in robotic surgery for a variety of procedures, including robotic hysterectomy, laparoscopy and vaginal sling procedures. Dr. Bankert is also the only physician in Okaloosa and Walton counties to perform robotic sacrocolpopexy for advanced female pelvic-floor disorders. These procedures are typically done on an outpatient basis and do not require an extended stay in the hospital. Recovery times for robotic procedures are shorter than with traditional methods of surgery and also offer lower infection rates and a better overall experience for the patient. Dr. Bankert is passionate about providing quality and compassionate healthcare for women of all ages, whether for a routine well-woman exam or a more in-depth health concern. He has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Okaloosa and Walton counties since 1992 and joined Sacred Heart Medical Group in 2014. In his spare time, Dr. Bankert enjoys spending time with his wife, Christi, and their children and grandchildren. He also enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing.
