Founded in 1981, People For the American Way, also known as PFAW, focuses on protecting the rights and liberties of Americans. It staffs a chief operating officer, field organizer, political specialist, new media and communications manager, online designer, general counsel, press secretary and communications specialist. The organization operates human resources, administration and finance departments. People For the American Way handles issues related to equality, freedom of speech and voting right. Its African American Religious Affairs program features a network of clergymen, scholars, seminarians and advocates who focus on social change. The organization s Young People For program is a youth-driven program that raises voices against critical issues. People For the American Way is located in Washington, D.C.
