MissionSquare Retirement was founded in 1972 through a Ford Foundation grant, providing portable retirement benefits for city and county managers, thus enabling accumulated retirement asset transfer between employers. Our mission is to help public sector employees build retirement security. Today, we serve more than 1.5 million participant accounts and approximately 9,800 plans across the country. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are important to us. More than 60% of employees, our executive team, and board of directors are women or people of color. The MissionSquare Retirement Memorial Scholarship Fund has raised over $1.3 million and awarded 450+ scholarships to surviving children and spouses of fallen public sector employees nationwide.
