Bread for the World, founded in 1972, is a nationwide Christian movement that seeks justice for the world's hungry people by lobbying the decision makers in the United States. Its more than 55,000 members are organized by congressional district into local networks nationwide. The organization writes, calls and visits members of congress, and generates media attention about national legislation and other efforts that address hunger. Its staff keeps members up-to-date on hunger-related issues and pending decisions. Bread for the World Institute performs research and education on hunger and development. Its ONE campaign is an effort to rally Americans to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty. The organization is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
