The Aspen Institute, founded in 1950, is an international nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. It promotes nonpartisan inquiry through seminars, policy programs, conferences and leadership development initiatives. Its community programs include free lectures, seminars for adults and high school students, book discussions, contemporary foreign policy discussions and special events. The institute hosts a variety of public programs, including Aspen Ideas Festival, the McCloskey Summer Speaker Series, and monthly book and roundtable series. Its e-education and society program provides an informed and neutral forum for education practitioners, researchers and policy leaders. Common Sense Media is a nonpartisan organization intended to improve the media and entertainment lives of kids and families. The institute has campuses in Aspen, Colo., and on the Wye River on Maryland s eastern shore.
