Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology is a multidisciplinary voluntary international organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C. Established in 1972, its purpose is to influence, support and improve the quality of health care, through the practice and management of infection control, and the application of epidemiology in all health settings. An elected board of members, who volunteer their time and expertise, leads the organization, which has more than 10,000 members. Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology has evolved into the broader context of health care delivery, and includes the study of noninfectious adverse outcomes, and the movement of care outside the traditional health care system, specifically the hospital.
