Founded by Henry Francis du Pont, Winterthur Museum is one of the leading museums in the United States. A nonprofit organization, Winterthur has been operational for more than 90 years. An American county estate, the museum features more than 150 period rooms, conservation facilities, a multipurpose cafeteria, visitor center, souvenir store, exhibition galleries and naturalistic garden, and serves over 100,000 visitors annually. Located in Winterthur, Del., it displays more than 85,000 objects, including furniture, textiles, paintings, prints, pewter, silver, ceramics, glass, needlework and brass items. Winterhur s research library stock more than 70,000 bound and microfilm volumes, books, manuscripts, periodicals, journals, magazines and photographs. Winterthur Museum offers graduate programs in early American culture and art conservation in conjunction with the University of Delaware.
