GWFC Ladies Auxiliary History The Good Will Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary was organized on July 31, 1947. A meeting was called with the ladies of the area to form this Auxiliary. State President Mrs. Nan Laws Woods and Mrs. Bertha Carlisle attended this meeting and helped our ladies get organized. An election of officers was held with Mrs. Marie Maguire being elected as President. On August 5, 1958, a new Auxiliary was organized by State President Mrs. Josephine Brown, assisted by Elaine Lindell, County Secretary. Mrs. Jane Cannon was installed as President of this newly formed Auxiliary. This group continued on for many years and activities grew, but due to failing membership, the ladies were forced to retire in September of 1964. In November 1964, a new group of ladies met at the home of Mrs. Lois Oneschuk for the purpose of continuing on where the last Auxiliary left off. A letter was sent to the Fireman of Good Will, asking permission to regroup. The fireman voted to allow the ladies to hold a meeting at the fire hall for the purpose of electing officers. The meeting was held and Mrs. Jean Oneschuk was named President. At the first meeting in December, Mrs. Catherine Jenkins, County President installed the newly elected officers. During the first year, new By-Laws were adopted and activities surged on. The ladies were able to assist their firemen on various occasions and contributed to them financially, morally and materially. Along with the financial gifts to the firemen, the ladies purchased an automatic hose washer which has been greatly appreciated and has been a tremendous help to our firemen, as well as neighboring companies. The ladies became very active while the membership slowly grew. They served dinner, held card parties, bake sales, sub sales and held many other activities. They purchased uniforms and participated in all the convention parades. After three years of parading, the Good Will Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary won the Marie Saunders award for the Best Appearing Ladies Auxiliary in the 1968 State Fireman's Convention. The Good Will Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary has a long history of being active with the New Castle County and State Ladies Auxiliary.
