Dr. Ward is originally from Toms River, New Jersey. The youngest of four children, he is the only member of his family to pursue a career in medicine, a goal he had from very early in childhood. In medical school, Dr. Ward was amazed by the intricacies of pregnancy care, as well as the beauty of expecting mothers bringing new life into the world. Throughout his residency, Dr. Ward developed a particular interest in caring for women with more complicated pregnancies. Through his training, he has seen first-hand the physical and emotional toll this can have on a patient and her family. This was his primary reason for pursuing a career where he could care for women with high-risk pregnancies. In addition to addressing common medical issues of pregnancy, Dr. Ward also focuses on the massive importance of maternal mental health and physical activity during pregnancy. Knowing that every woman and every pregnancy is different, it is very important to individualize care for each patient, while still practicing in accordance with current guidelines and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Ward feels it is imperative to provide a detailed assessment of each pregnancy, and be an integral part of its ongoing management. He stresses the importance of shared decision-making between the patient and her primary obstetrical providers. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ward and his wife Lisa enjoy an active (and sometimes hectic) lifestyle of their own, along with their four children and two golden retrievers. He enjoys reading, drinking coffee, music, and skiing.
