The Torrington Police Department is responsible for the public safety of the residents of the city of Torrington, and for the enforcement of all laws and ordinances. Nearly 80 sworn police officers and approximately eight civilian employees staff the Torrington Police Department. The department is divided into two major divisions. The Patrol division operates three shifts and is responsible to patrolling approximately 42 square miles. The Support Services division includes records, community relations, crime watch and crime stoppers programs, the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, the traffic division and the investigative unit. In addition, the department is responsible for a number of specialized units, including the K-9 unit, accident investigative unit, special emergency response team, bicycle patrol, school resource officer and the explorer program. The Torrington Police Department operates from offices in Torrington, Conn.
