This non-profit organization helps children and teens deal with grief over the loss of a loved one or other traumatic experience. The Meriden center is one of four in the state. Services are free to clients, paid for by donations from corporations and generous individuals. The Cove's Family Program offers two-hour peer support meetings twice a month during the school year. In separate meetings, parents and guardians learn how to help their young family members deal constructively with their grief. The "Good Grief" School Program allows children of all grade levels to participate in peer support groups at school. This helps children avoid the negative consequences of unresolved grief, which can include poor school performance, behavioral problems and social isolation.
