Open to the public since 1985, the Community Dining Room is approaching its 50,000 meal according to CDR Executive Director Patricia Kral. Monthly, about 4,000 meals are served during breakfast, lunch, dinner and take-out dinner. In addition to offering Tuesday Family Dinner, the CDR strives to promote literacy and provides a weekly reading program. Kral believes the CDR helps people to help themselves. The CDR offers many opportunities for youth and others looking to get involved in community service; at any given mealtime you can find volunteers of all ages working to churn out nutritious meals for hungry diners.
