About Gardens at The Sundial THE SUNDIAL is a unique setting of Formal Gardens, Tea and Gift Shop located in the Higganum section of Haddam. Founded in 1976, The Sundial has been featured in numerous national publications, including Horticulture Magazine, TEAA Magazine, Garden Design, Victoria Magazine, the National Geographic's Guide to America's Public Gardens 300 of the Best Gardens and Parks to Visit in the US and Canada, and shown on major TV Stations such as CNN, WTNH-Channel 8, and HGTV ( Home and Garden cable TVGreat American Gardens series, on January 18, 2003 ). Over the years, The Sundial has become well-known as an oasis for fine tea and tea knowledge. To view the gardens, click here. FORMAL GARDENS include a Persian-style knot garden, an 18th century style garden with geometric walkways, and a topiary garden with boxwood, roses and ivy garlands surrounding a fountain. These architectural gardens, or "outdoor rooms" are carefully incorporated into the landscape around a restored 18th century farm house. Fee to the gardens: $2 donation per per person. Note: the Gardens will be open the last weekend in May ( through mid-October ) from 10 am to 5 pm. Closed major holidays.
