The First District Water Department is charged with maintaining "high quality water and service" for its customers. Part of the department's mission is to regularly schedule hydrant flushing and valve exercising programs to ensure water quality. These schedules are posted online, and residents of the district are advised to store clean water in bottles in case the flushing results in brown water. The Water Department is also responsible for maintaining the related equipment that serves the community.
