The Department of Social Services is governed by the State of Connecticut. The department provides a range of services to senior citizens and people with disabilities and sexually transmitted diseases. It administers more than 90 legislatively authorized programs that offer vocational rehabilitation services for eligible individuals with physical and mental disabilities at over 20 offices in Connecticut. The department operates through human resources, information technology services, family services, strategic planning, and organizational and skill development divisions. It administers the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. The Department of Social Services also provides care management, adult foster care, and food and housing assistance solutions. It additionally specializes in the protection and promotion of physical, social and economic well-being of people.
