The Norwich Police Department has been operational for more than 100 years and offers a range of public protection services. Its patrol division is responsible for patrolling more than 223 miles of highways, streets and alleys within an area of nearly 30 square miles. The department provides the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which educates youths to resist peer pressure and provides information about the dangers involved in using drugs, such as alcohol, marijuana and tobacco products. Its D.A.R.E. unit also organizes several events, including drug-free Red Ribbon rallies, essay contests, and antidrug- and violence-related poster contests, as well as participates in the Norwich Winter Festival Parade and McGruff Crime Dog program. The Norwich Police Department s investigative division has juvenile, narcotic, crime prevention and criminal investigation units. It is located in Norwich, Conn.
