The Muhammad Islamic Center, also known as the Abdul-Majid Karim Hasan Islamic Center, has been in the area for more than a half a century. It is one of the oldest mosques in the New Haven region and bears the name of its Imam, Abdul-Majid Karim Hasan. It marks its 51st anniversary in November 2010 and attracts worshipers from throughout the region.
In 1959 the mosque opened on Dixwell Avenue in New Haven and later moved down the street over the Hamden line, where last year it celebrated its 50th anniversary by renaming the facility in honor of the Imam.
