One of the town's oldest public parks, Island Beach, also known as Little Captain Island, is situated in Long Island Sound about one mile south of Greenwich Harbor. It is accessible by private boat and public ferry service, which leaves the landing at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park during the summer months. Parking is available across Arch Street.
The island boasts almost 1,000 feet of fine sandy beach with designated swimming and boating areas. Lifeguards are on duty from 10am to 6pm, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. A covered picnic pavilion, grills, a snack bar, dressing rooms and restrooms complete the recreational area.
Overnight camping requires reservation through the Department of Parks & Recreation.
The beach is open year round, though Park/Beach Passes are required from May 1 to October 31.
