The Institute for Community Research conducts research in collaboration with community partners to promote justice and equity worldwide. It trains youths, adolescents and adults to conduct and use research for community change. The institute develops new models of public health prevention and tests new ideas for effectiveness. It also promotes cultural expression and community cultural resources. The Institute for Community Research shares the research results, models and information through conferences, workshops, publications and other public forums. Its health and mental health research projects focus on various issues that affect individuals, such as HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, depression, violence and sexual identity. In addition, the institute s cultural conservation and development projects are performed in collaboration with individual urban artists, cultural conservation organizations, and cultural and historical associations to support access to artistic resources and sustain heritage art forms and traditions in Connecticut. The Institute for Community Research is located in Hartford, Conn.
