After getting his start as a digital artist, creating the effects for many of today's biggest blockbusters, longtime Canton resident Doug Tubauch opened this contemporary art gallery on Main Street in 2008. His business, Gallery 101, continues Collinsville's tradition of supporting local artists by providing a location to display and sell their paintings, sculpture, fabric, jewelry, and mixed media work. Tubauch estimates that about 30 percent of the art pieces in his shop come from Collinsville itself, and nearly all come from within Connecticut. In addition to a large collection of contemporary art for sale, Gallery 101 also hosts several special events during the year. There is free form art every Wednesday, where amateur artists can drop in and work on projects of their choice with the benefit of an instructor. The gallery also is the location for the Speakeasy "Collinsville Social Club," an exposition of local singer-songwriters that takes place once a month on a Saturday. Additionally, it provides a space for interactive wine education classes by Wine Time. See its website or call for more details on any of these events.
