Founded by husband and wife team, Martin and Judith Shepard, in Sagaponack in 1978, The Permanent Press publishes 14 titles a year, almost exclusively works of fiction. The titles are chosen from approximately 5,000 submissions each year, according to Martin Shepard. Permanent Press authors include Nobel Prize winner, Halldor Laxness, and Nobel nominee, Berry Fleming. The independent press keeps nearly all of its titles in print, and its sister imprint, Second Chance Press, reprints books that have been out of print for at least 20 years.
