History
Elizabeth Park was left to the city of Hartford by Charles M. Pond who asked that it be named after his beloved wife, Elizabeth. During the 1800's the Pond estate called Prospect Hill Farm and was a fully functioning farm. in 1897 it was bequeathed to the City and designed by landscape architect, Theodore Wirth. The Elizabeth Park Conservancy is a non-profit organization established in 1977, dedicated to assisting the City of Hartford in the maintenance and preservation of the gardens and grounds in Elizabeth Park. The Conservancy stewards the Park's legacy by providing free heritage programming, free concerts, and beautiful horticultural gardens for the public to enjoy as it was intended. It is our mission to preserve and restore the Park to its original beauty. The entire Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and can not be torn down or altered.
