Housed in a white, clapboard building just over the East Haddam Swing Bridge with a view of the Connecticut River, East Haddam Town Hall boasts a plaque indicating its status on the National Register of Historic Places. It additionally services the villages of Moodus, Hadlyme, Millington, North Plain/Hopyard and Lake Hayward. Centrally located across the street from the Goodspeed Opera House and Gelston House, it contains the offices of town clerk, assessor, tax collector and land use on the first floor and selectman, building and finance on the second. Set back from the road, at the rear of the town hall proper is the building that houses the Middlesex VNA, registrar of voters, parks and recreation office and resident state trooper.
