Corp Del Cobre, or Codelco as it is more familiarly known, represents the Corporaci n Nacional del Cobre de Chile, an autonomous company owned by the Chilean State. The company s main business is the exploration, development and exploitation of copper mineral resources and byproducts, their processing to refined copper and its commercialization. Codelco is one of the main copper producers in the world and controls approximately 20 percent of the world reserves of copper. Codelco has four mining divisions, the Codelco Norte division, the Salvador division, the Andina division and the El Teniente division. They are all located in Northern and Central Chile. Codelco s main product is copper concentrate, which is made up of copper, iron and sulfide. In addition, the copper smelting process produces several byproducts, including molybdenum, molybdenum trioxide, anodic copper, sulphuric acid and blister copper.
