Family Centers is a private, non-profit organization made up of more than 1,400 professionals and volunteers, who work together to provide education and human services to children, adults and families in Lower Fairfield County. The organization has roots that date as far back as 1891, when it was known as the Stamford Family Welfare Society. In 2006, Family Centers merged with the Center for Hope and has since joined HealthCare Connection, a nonprofit based in Stamford that oversees a number of service agencies. Executive offices in Greenwich are located on Arch St.; the center's counseling center can be found at 20 Bridge St. Programs include: Bright Beginnings, early education programs for children; Families in Crisis, a counselling and support service; Fostering Independence, which helps the disadvantage become self sufficient, Healthy Aging, and Workplace Resources. Volunteers are welcome, and financial donations are gratefully accepted.
