The Avon Volunteer Fire Department Company Three used to be known as the West Avon Volunteer Fire Department, an independent company. It merged with the Avon Volunteer Fire Department and Secret Lake Fire Department in 1960. A new station was built in 1964 at the company's current location on West Avon Road. Because of its central location, Company Three is the most active department in Avon. The company is often called upon for mutual aid assistance.
Ladder 12, the only aerial apparatus in the town, responds primarily to structural fires. Company Three houses Tanker 5, the only fire department apparatus for delivering large amounts of water. Engine 14 is used for fire and rescue, also capable of delivering water. The company also has Truck 6, which is a Fire Police traffic control vehicle and is a first responder rehabilitation vehicle.
