Established in 1798, the Avon Free Public Library provides access to information, literature, culture and the arts through a variety of media and technologies. In addition to checking out and returning items, processing interlibrary loans, taking reservations for the museum pass program and collecting fines, the circulation staff of the library routes incoming calls, issues new library cards, directs patrons to areas within the library and provides reader s advisory assistance. The library building has a staff of more than 30 and a collection inventory of over 78,600 volumes in both adult and children's departments. 261 periodical subscriptions, more than 3,100 music and audiocassettes and compact discs and more than 110 parent packs, with a total circulation of more than 257,600, are included in the collection. The library has a community room that seats 100 persons and two smaller rooms. It also provides Internet facilities and a history room. The library is in Avon, Conn.
