Established in 1970, the Third Way Center provides accommodation and a range of health care services for homeless and mentally ill young people. The center employs more than 100 staff members and operates various residential child care units that include The Lowry Campus and Pontiac and York St. Facilities, which serve nearly 80 people between the ages of 14 and 20. Third Way Center administers the Next Steps program, which was started in 1998 and provides group therapies and step-down services for the youth. It operates The Joan Farley Academy, which was opened in 1997 and serves approximately 60 young people. The center provides drug and alcohol abuse treatment, as well as vocational guidance consultation. It conducts various recreational activities and training sessions.
