The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment works for the protection and preservation of health and environment of the people of Colorado. It operates health, laboratory service, environmental, and emergency preparedness and response divisions. It offers a variety of health care programs for diabetes, asthma, arthritis, cancer and chronic diseases. The department also provides birth and death certificates. It licenses, certifies and inspects several health care facilities, including hospitals, acute treatment units, rural health clinics, assisted living residences, and birth, mental health and emergency centers. In addition, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment offers a geographic information system and is located in Denver.
