The Mountaineer came to Lake City with five original investors. Over the years out of the original owners, Phillip Virden along with his wife Carolyn, became the sole owners of the Mountaineer. We opened with three movies in September 1975, Young Frankenstein, The Three Musketeers, and Towering Inferno. Over the years we have been able to show an assortment of film genres to the community.Over the years our theatre has been a staple to our family, the members to the Lake City, and everyone passing through. We continue to provide memories and entertainment for locals and visitors who take part in our wonderful community.We are reopening in the summer of 2013 with new digital projectors, sound system, popcorn and soft drink machine. New seats with cup holders will be installed in May as well as new carpet are coming this spring. We are excited to provide a better movie experience for you all this summer!

The Mountaineer Theatre is a small town, one screen theatre located in Lake City, Colorado. Being a summer tourist destination, our theatre is open to all May-September, offering new blockbuster films.Locally owned and operated, we strive to provide entertainment and memories for locals and visitors who take part in our wonderful community
