Founded in 1969, Larimer Humane Society is an independent nonprofit organization that provides shelter and care to stray and homeless domestic animals, as well as rehabilitation for injured, orphaned and sick wild animals. The organization has operations in northern Colorado and employs more than 60 full- and part-time employees. Its activities are funded through service revenue, donations, fundraisers and animal control contracts. Larimer Humane Society also provides investigation, welfare, public safety, and stray, dead and wild animal pickup services. In addition, the organization offers dog, cat, rabbit, bird, reptile and farm animal for adoption. Larimer Humane Society's veterinary services department spays and neuters over 2,000 animals annually, as well as works with the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital to advance the practice of shelter medicine.
