Dr. Bret Peterson is a native of Fort Collins who returned to the community in 2013 as a hand surgeon with the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies.He specializes in surgery for injuries and conditions that affect the hand, fingers, wrist, arm, and elbow. Dr. Peterson, who is board certified, has patient appointments in our Fort Collins, Loveland, and Greeley, CO, offices.He has experience with many kinds of hand and arm injuries, including those that are work-related. Many individuals who see Dr. Peterson for an appointment have sustained and injury at their workplace and are covered by workers compensation insurance.Dr. Peterson enjoys helping people of all ages regain their health and ability to engage in their favorite sports or recreational pursuits, or return to work.He was born and raised in Fort Collins, graduating from Rocky Mountain High School in 1998.He went on to obtain both his undergraduate degree as well as his M.D. from the University of Colorado. He served as class president during his four years in medical school.Dr. Peterson completed his five-year orthopaedic residency at Duke University, Durham, NC (2007-2012), where his achievements were recognized with a number of awards.Dr. Peterson went on to complete advanced training as a hand and upper extremity surgeon through a fellowship program at the University of Washington in Seattle (2012-2013).Fellowship programs provide a sixth year of highly specialized training for an orthopaedic surgeon following the completion of their residency program. The additional training gives a surgeon the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge and skills in their area of interest hand, finger, wrist, arm, and elbow conditions, in Dr. Petersons case.In hand and upper extremity surgery, Dr. Peterson joins Drs. Mark Durbin, Satoru Chamberlain, and Steven Seiler at OCR.He takes care of patients from OCRs service area of northern Colorado, Wyoming, and western Nebraska. He performs surgery at hospitals and surgery centers in Fort Collins and Loveland.Outside of medicine, Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time with his wife Coco and their children, His other interests include strength, athletics and fitness; music; and reading, arts, and humanities.
